Our Annual Review and AGM 2019

On Tuesday 1 October, we saw fantastic presentations about Scouting activities in our Region over the last year. North Berwick Beavers told us about their great year of fun in the most entertaining way!

The most memorable part of their presentation was their song and throwing a bucket of water (actually confetti) over our distinguished guests who included four Lord Lieutenants!

Midlothian Scouts showed us an entertaining video of their expedition to Adelboden in Switzerland. The video was put together by Jo Whiting, Cub leader and ADC Cubs; together with Brian McGuff,  Midlothian District Administrator.

Three Cramond Scouts told us about their individual journeys through Scouting and Sharkey, the Chief Commissioner for Scotland, presented them with their Chief Scout’s Gold Awards.

They are Ruairidh (left), Ellie (right), Reuben ( below right) and Mike Treanor, Scout leader, Cramond Scouts (below left) with the three Scouts.

Three members of the Region’s contingent to the World Scout Jamboree in North America entertained us with all their adventures – from left Nina, Scott and Archie.

They told us the story of the way they had joined in with 40,000 other young people from around the world.

What a Scouting adventure!

Sharkey presented Alan Gibson, leader of the Region’s contingent to the World Scout Jamboree with the Award of Merit, in recognition of the fantastic job he had done in looking after 36 Explorers, together with three other leaders, including Mark Petrie from our Region.

Well done, Alan!

Finally, Matthew Wilson, Fraser Ewen, Joe Sinclair and Sam Praetcher, members of the Network expedition to Madagascar, told us about the sterling community work they had achieved and the fun they had. Brian Donoghue, from Craigalmond District and volunteers from Scotland went to Madagascar to help rebuild a girls’ refuge at Akany Favarohita, in Tana, Madagascar.

Sharkey also presented top awards to leaders, who have done so much for Scouting.

Our Regional AGM was then conducted most effectively, thanks to the excellent chairing by our President, Dick Allan (left).

John Cannon, Regional Chair, gave a very positive speech about all the Regional Executive Committee’s achievements in 2018-19. You can read it here

It was a great evening and very well attended by about 80 people. The  Annual Review was hosted by Rob Whitelaw, DC for ENE District, and compered by Mark Hesketh, DC for Craigalmond and Hilary Cartwright, DC for East Lothian. Our thanks to them for their cheerful approach to organising the evening!
