It’s great to welcome Scouting back to Bonaly…campfires are burning again with lots of happy faces. Since re-opening, we have been busy with first aid courses, DofE and most importantly, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

The Chalet refurbishment is continuing and we have had more work carried out by our tree surgeons to ensure our woods are safe. It’s never nice to see big trees cut down but it is necessary when you see they are rotten inside. The good thing is there will be no shortage of firewood! Luckily, the Green Team volunteers have been busy in the Druim field planting lots of native broadleaf trees for us.

Modern Traditional Scouting at Bonaly.

Following of from our well supported consultations with Leaders, we are planning to run a Virtual Volunteering Event later this month. We have many volunteering opportunities for people to come along and help us provide exciting activities and run leader training sessions; more details to follow on social media.

Epic Days

We’re excited to be welcoming over 4,000 young people from every Primary School in Edinburgh this year for an ‘Epic Day’ run by City of Edinburgh Council. The Council approached us in 2020 to see if they could use Bonaly for an ‘Epic Day’ to replace the experience of a residential outdoor educational experience.

Originally planned for March/April the ongoing restrictions have pushed the event back to a five-week period in May and June and a couple of weeks in September.

The pupils will attend with their teachers and undertake a range of activities such as time in the Pentlands, high-ropes and campfires.

Covid restrictions are still restricting the numbers we can have on site and when taken with the number of pupils on site It does mean that the site is now fully booked Monday to Friday for this five-week period 17 May to 22 June. We do still have availability over the weekends.

This is very much a one-off situation for this year and I hope any disappointment at not being able to book Bonaly is offset by the knowledge that so many young people are going to enjoy an Epic Day at Bonaly.
