Help us support leaders and adult volunteers to develop Scouting in South East Scotland!
Scouting in South East Scotland: Across generations, Scouting has proved a powerful force for good, bringing communities together and contributing to society. It has always had one aim above all others: to prepare young people for the future. Scouting plays a key role in helping young people to develop the skills they need to succeed in a changing world.
We do this by offering a broad programme that offers fun, challenge and adventure. Our programme has a combination of opportunities for outdoor learning and adventure, as well as indoor activities. We believe that our programme gives young people opportunities to develop key capacities such as confidence and resilience, as well as learn new skills, achieve relevant qualifications and develop a love for the Scottish outdoors.
We have a thriving membership of adults and young people in our Region – over 2,100 adults and 7,200 young people. The young people are members of the Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers sections. Our leaders and the Regional Leadership Team members are all volunteers and work incredibly hard to support the membership.
Why we are recruiting a Scouting Support Officer: We wish to support leaders and assist them in maintaining and developing Scouting in the Region. This person will assist us to recruit and support more adult leaders. We have made significant progress with a re-invigorated Regional Leadership Team and there is a great deal more that we want to accomplish, particularly to ensure that young people can have more opportunities for camping and outdoor activities, since we know that this is the biggest attraction for young people.
Scouting Support Officer: We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to support, instigate and deliver focussed support to leaders and growth plans and opportunities across the Region. This role requires you to have Scouting or similar uniformed organisation experience and enables you to work closely with existing Scouting structures to provide support to leaders. Home based, you will be a self-starter and an excellent communicator.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to the fundamentals of Scouting and experience in a volunteer environment and be able to work under pressure both independently and as part of a team. You must be willing to work unsociable hours to include evenings and weekends, using a flexible approach. The successful candidate will be line managed by the Regional Commissioner and employed by the South East Scotland Regional Executive Committee.
