Regional Commissioner at AGM

It’s getting near the time of year where we look to take some well earned time off, but I could not do that without first wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. Whether you celebrate this season or not, I hope that you get to spend time in what remains of 2018 doing things that make you happy with the people that you love.

2018 has been a rollercoaster for some of us who may be missing loved ones who are no longer with us or be dealing with various challenges which life has thrown our way. So we may feel a mix of emotions during the holidays and I hope that you will find support and comfort in being part of the Scouting family in South East Scotland.

This time of year is a good opportunity to look back on the good times we’ve enjoyed and everything that we have achieved over 2018. For me personally, I have been delighted to see more young people being able to enjoy Scouting within South East Scotland, being involved in so many activities such as camping and outdoor adventures, with many members also able to enjoy International Scouting including the 11 patrols from the Region who attend Blair Atholl. Within the Region we have also seen Longcraig Watersports Centre, after a difficult 2017, continue to provide opportunities for young people, we have District Commissioners in every District and an expanding Regional Leadership Team as well as a fantastic team of Regional Assessors for adventurous activities.  And you will be aware of much, much more. I believe next year is going to be just as successful as we build on the achievements of 2018, continue to work on improving Bonaly Centre and start working with our new Scouting Support Officer to improve the support offered to leaders and supported across the Region.

As the year draws to a close I’m feeling excited, grateful and yes, a bit exhausted after my first year as Regional Commissioner. I could not have done this role without the unstinting support of so many people in Scouting and I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you across the Region for the fantastic job you do as leaders and supporters. So, this holiday break comes at a perfect time for me – and I hope for you too.

But first, I want to say…

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Margery Naylor, Regional Commissioner
