Graham Cullen receives Commendation for Meritorious Service

Our fireworks night on Friday 3 November was very special as it included the presentation of a Commendation for Meritorious Conduct to our Group Scout Leader Graham Cullen for his outstanding services to Scouting.  The presentation was made by District Commissioner Mark Hesketh and included a written message from Bear Grylls.  The scouts were very respectful, and it was good to have the Friday cubs there, too.

As for our activities for the night, as far as I know all patrols managed to light both the Swedish torches and rocket stoves and used them to make hot chocolate to a variety of strengths and temperatures – I know as I sampled a few. I also think most managed the chocolatey bananas and cheesey bacon wraps on the main campfire, with a few marshmallows too. The night was finished off with some fireworks, which made for a fitting end. It was a lot to pack into the time we had available and the scouts managed it all.

Duncan ended his message to parents by saying:

I’d like to thank the scouts, parent helpers and leaders for their enthusiasm and engagement on Friday night.  Hopefully, your scout came home smelling like a bonfire with a smile on their face.
