East Lothian Scout District Volunteer Vacancies

Ready for your next challenge?

If this year is the year for you to accept a new challenge, then get in touch and we can connect you with your local scout group.

You don’t need to have any specific skills, or have been in scouting as a child or be like Bear Grylls to get involved. We have lots of different and flexible roles local to you which means you can give as little or as much time as you like, working with young people directly or behind the scenes.

We would love to be able to explain more about Scouting across East Lothian and the opportunities we have for you to get involved.  Please do get in touch with me or to learn more about your local Scout Group and discover how you can give young people the skills they need to succeed in life and how being part of the Scouting family can be as rewarding for you as it is for them.

Please get in touch for a conversation using the contact information below.

We look forward to meeting you!

Yours in Scouting,

Hilary Cartwright
District Commissioner
East Lothian Scouts District

Current Vacancies:

There are lots of ways you can get more involved with Scouts as a parent, carer or family member. From helping out occasionally on a family rota or playing a vital role behind the scenes, to stepping up as a leader, our volunteering activities are as varied as you.

We’re talking tidy uppers and tea makers, session planners and Zoom navigators, fundraisers and treasurers, and all-round team players to support our young people.

The good news is you shape what you do and the time you have to give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little (and no, you don’t have to be a Scout or outdoors expert to volunteer).

Opportunities to volunteer with young people – Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts as Leaders, Assistants etc

Team player? Love supporting young people? Great at planning? Why not join us? We are looking for those with a positive can-do attitude who want to inspire and support our local young people. We are welcoming and friendly with a great leadership team. Scouts is an experience for young people AND adults. Come and have a try!

In return, the benefits are so rewarding:
-Have fun, make unforgettable memories and new friends.
-Do something good for your community – gain a sense of ‘I helped’.
-Help more local young people to learn and grow through Scouting.
-Rediscover your sense of adventure – try something different.
-Develop your own confidence – volunteering is great for your CV!
-Keep your body and brain active and happy; whether that’s by scaling a mountain, sharing a skill, taking photographs, driving a bus or serving tea.

Volunteer: ‘behind the scenes’ (non uniformed opportunity)

Would you prefer to make a big impact behind the scenes? Your time and skills can help in so many oways form Board experience, project work, accounts, planning activities …. everything from admin to communications.

This team meets less regularly and esures sa Scout Group runs smoothly. They are just as crucial as it frees up the volunteers who are working with the young people.

There are many benefits:

* A warm welcome

* Flexibility to get involved in a way that works for you

* Easy access to training and resources online

* Friendly ongoing support from local volunteers

All our roles have a defined remit yet are flexible which means you can share them with others or approach them in a way that best suits you. Volunteering with young people

Team player? Love supporting young people? Great at planning?

Most of our volunteers work directly with young people aged 6-18 through our BeaverCubScout and Explorer groups, known as sections – helping young people gain skills for life through activities and adventures.

Working in teams, they might:
* Welcome young people and families to sessions and events
* Make sure everyone’s safe, supported, included and having fun
* Help to plan and lead activities
* Get involved with days out, camps and expeditions
* Share and learn skills – from coding to cake decorating to canoeing
* Celebrate young people’s achievements big and small

No previous experience with young people? No problem. Whether you’d like to help out week-after-week or whenever-you-can, we provide training, learning opportunities and cups of tea – every step of the way.

Volunteers make Scouts happen at a national level as well as a local one. From our Chief Scout and Chair of our Board to the incredible volunteers who support young people as leaders and occasional helpers at our local groups, these are just some of the superstars who’ve stepped up to inspire a generation.

We’re proud that Scouts is a volunteer led movement. That’s where you come in!

Got a question?  Need more information? Want to chat about the volunteer opportunities available then you can contact us in a number of ways:
