How we're run
South East Scotland Regional Scout Council, known as South East Scotland Scouts, is a registered Scottish charity (SC010563).
We support Scout Groups and Districts across Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders, helping volunteers deliver Scouting for young people every week. Most of the people who lead and support Scouting across the Region are volunteers.
This page explains how the charity is governed, who makes which decisions, and how its money and other resources are overseen.
Sets the framework and appoints the trustees
The Scout Council brings together volunteers and supporters from across the Region as part of its governance. It normally meets once a year at the AGM to agree the constitution, review the trustees’ annual report and accounts, and appoint the Chair, Treasurer and other trustees.
The Council does not run the Region, and its members are not trustees simply because they belong to it.
Holds legal responsibility for the charity
The Trustee Board is a group of five to twelve volunteers who are legally responsible for the charity. It meets throughout the year to oversee its finances, risks, property, people and legal duties, and to make sure the Region has a clear strategy and the resources it needs.
The Board oversees how the charity is run rather than delivering Scouting day to day. It reports back to the Scout Council through the annual report, accounts and AGM.
