Two groups in South East Scotland will be putting the Peace Light at the Centre of their Christmas and their communities.
Since 1988, a group of Austrian Scouts have travelled to Bethlehem and kindled the flame from the Eternal Flame in the Nativity Grotto in Bethlehem. They then share the light at a Service of Dedication in Vienna’s cathedral and Scouts from all over the world attend, collect a flame and then carry the flames to all corners.
Co-operation between Scouts and Guides across the world means that the Flame travels around Europe into 30 countries and also goes out to North America, Mexico and Canada. The Flame arrives in South East Scotland Region with a service hosted by the 21st Craigalmond Scout Group at the Priory Church, South Queensferry on Wednesday 19th December 2018 @ 7pm. The flame will then be collected by the 162nd Braid Scout Group who will have their service at Liberton Kirk on Thursday 20th December @ 7.30pm.
From the 162nd service flames will travel across Scotland. For all those who attend both the Peace Light Services their Christmas has a very special centre piece this year – the light of the world. This light is to be shared and many of those who attend will bring a lantern so that they take home the Light and share it with their own family
