On Friday 22 January 2019 a group of twelve Explorers from Meadows and Borestane ESUs acted as stewards at an event in the Scottish Parliament marking Holocaust Memorial Day. There were 350 people there, including many from schools, and the main address was from a Holocaust survivor from whom we all learned a great deal.
The organiser said: “May I say how pleasant and friendly I found all your Scouts. What an absolutely delightful bunch of young people! So helpful, patient and welcoming to our guests.”
Two comments from our Explorers:
“It was a very worthwhile experience. I am glad to have gone so I can tell people what I witnessed, and about the horrors experienced during the Holocaust.”
“It was really interesting hearing Janine speak about the Holocaust and what she went through, because you don’t really understand the experiences of what people went through until you hear them for yourself.”
