Welcome to South East Scotland Scouts
South East Scotland is one the eight Regions that form Scouts Scotland. The Region stretches from Edinburgh on the south bank of the River Forth to the English border. It includes the local authority council areas of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and Scottish Borders. The Region covers areas of high urban population, rural areas in East Lothian and Scottish Borders as well as the developing area of Midlothian with a mix of growing towns and rural life.
There are over 6,000 young people enjoying Scouting in this Region. They are led and supported by almost 2,000 adult volunteers. Scouting offers young people aged 4-25 years an exciting, adventurous programme of activities which encourages interests in outdoor, creative, community based and inclusive activities. Scouting is a value based organisation which encourages self-development, good citizenship and consideration of others. Membership is open to all young people in the age range. Most of all, Scouting is fun.
Activity Risk Assessments
The requirement to undertake written risk assessments for general activities, became mandatory from January 2021. This link provides some guidance and additional links to other helpful information. In addition, our Regional Assessors have put together some useful tools to help you create Risk Assessments for adventurous activities which can be found here.

Why not join us?
We’d love you to join us in (coming soon Squirrels), Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers or Network, or to volunteer as an adult – giving whatever time you are comfortable with.
In Scouting we offer fun, friendship and adventure to young people in five sections according to age. There is an emphasis on outdoor activities and on skills for life throughout. The older sections take increasing responsibility for the running of their programme. Scouting is run by adult volunteers.
