Inclusion & Diversity

Find out about Inclusion & Diversity at South East Scotland Scouts and access our volunteer resources

At South East Scotland Scouts, our main priority is to make sure that everyone, be that our young people or our volunteers, feel welcome and comfortable to take part.

Scouts is committed to encouraging and promoting diversity and inclusion in our workplace and services to members. This reflects our values of respect, belief, care, cooperation and integrity, where everyone should be treated with dignity at all time. Scouts will take every possible step to tackle all forms of discrimination, inequality, and unfair treatment, whether it’s intentional or unintentional, direct or indirect.

Additional Needs support

At Scouts, we encourage all members to take part, achieve and reach their full potential. Our programme, badges and activities are designed to be flexible to reflect a person’s individual needs.

Faiths & Beliefs in Scouting

Celebrating and understanding differences, including differences in faiths and beliefs, is an important part of the educational and developmental side of Scouts.

Supporting LGBTQ+ members

At Scouts we welcome everyone, including those who are part of LGBTQ+ communities. We aim to create spaces where our volunteers and young people can thrive and be themselves with pride.

Our Race Equity work

It’s time for every one of us, as Scouts, to live by our promise, law and values by becoming a place that’s inclusive of all races and ethnic backgrounds, so that everyone can be themselves and thrive.

Girls and Women in Scouting

Scouts is now fully, and proudly, open to all. Young people and volunteers of all genders should always feel understood, accepted and welcomed in Scouts.

Scouts and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) acknowledge that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur the development of thriving communities and economies – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

At Scouts, we recognise that EDI principles are embedded throughout all 17 of the SDGs and are taking steps to identify how we as an organisation can do our part to leave the world a little better than you found it.
