With the generous support of Scottish Borders Council in the form of a grant from the Neighbourhood Support Fund. Lauderdale Scout Group have installed a composting toilet.

Andy Beaumont the Group Scout Leader at Lauderdale Scout Group said: “ We have over 180 boys and girls from a large catchment area of the Scottish Borders who attend Lauderdale Scouts. Getting young people outdoors and into nature is more important than ever for mental health.

“We are in the very fortunate position to have access to some private woodland just outside Lauder. Whilst being outside in nature is great for young people’s development and mental health, the lack of a toilet can cause issues.”

“That’s why the Scottish Borders Council – Neighbourhood Support Fund has been so helpful. With the support of the Fund, a purpose-built eco toilet has been purchased and erected. No more chemical toilets for the Scout Group! This aesthetically pleasing shelter will last for years without any environmental impact.”

There are 13 Scouts Groups operating across the Borders Region, for young people aged 4 to 18 years.  If you are interested in finding out more about Scouting in the Borders for both young people and as an adult volunteer – please contact Borders Scouts or join in their social conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram.
