Ross Lyall Neil Hogg

I am delighted to announce that Ross Lyall and Neil Hogg have agreed to be Acting Assistant Regional Commissioners Section Support for Beavers and Cubs respectively.  Both have a great track record in Scouting and will be able to assist and support Beaver and Cub leaders in many ways. Their first tasks will be to find out what leaders would like – such as help with hard to gain badges or events and camps. So please get in touch with Ross at lyallr15@googlemail.com or Neil at neilh86@hotmail.com.

Here’s what Ross says about his experience in Scouting:

After coming through Scouting in Bonnyrigg as a Beaver, Cub, Scout and Young Leader, I have held leadership roles in the Beaver Section and Scout Section. Whilst at University, I was a leader in Clackmannanshire and throughout have remained a part of Newtongrange Scout Group. We take our Beavers camping (in tents!) each year and currently have over 40 Beavers on the roll in Newtongrange. Recently I was District Beaver Leader in Midlothian before becoming Assistant District Commissioner (Beavers) and latterly Deputy District Commissioner for Midlothian. Outwith Scouting I am a Primary Teacher in Midlothian and enjoy going hillwalking with friends.

Here is what Neil says about his track record in Scouting:

I started my Scouting life as a Beaver at the 108th Merchiston (now Pentland), going all the way through the sections there until eventually becoming a young leader, then Assistant Leader at both the Cubs and the Scouts at the same group. In 2009 I was “promoted”  to Cub Scout Leader which is a role that I held until 2016. During that time I also took on the role of ADC Cubs in Pentland in 2014. The highlight of my time as ADC Cubs was being involved in the centenary celebrations in our District which included our District camp that was attended by 260 Cubs.

I was appointed Deputy District Commissioner in January 2017 and then took over as acting District Commissioner for Pentland in August 2017.

As well as those roles I have also found time to help out as a District Training Advisor and as a member of our District Appointments Advisory Committee.

I am looking forward to taking on this new role and hope that I can help support the Cub sections within the Region.
