Update from Hilary Cartwright, District Commissioner:
Scouting is thriving in the East Lothian District and we offer Scouting to over 760 young people aged 6-18 (based on the last census) giving them “skills for life” to help them build their confidence and resilience, work as a team and contribute to their community and most importantly have fun doing so!
East Lothian has extra-ordinary people, who work together to provide amazing scouting adventures for the young people across the area. I want to thank them for all they do, and more, and, importantly, make sure that the future is bright for them and the District, by finding the right individual to take on this important role. The young people in Scouts are supported by over 170+ adult volunteers in a wide variety of roles, both working directly with young people as well as behind the scenes.
East Lothian Scout District covers the area of the local authority of East Lothian Council. It is responsible for the Scout Groups (each of which includes Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) and Explorer Units in the District.
At the last census, East Lothian Scouts’ membership includes:

Every single adult in East Lothian Scout District is a volunteer who gives up their time to help support Scouting in our Scout Groups, and Explorer Scout Units. Offering young people in the District great Scouting experiences is only made possible by a team of amazing volunteers. There are a wide variety of roles in Scouting, and most of them do not commit you to regular weekly attendance, but may involve once or twice a month, or weekends and some are administrative only so can be completed from the comfort of your own home. Volunteering is flexible, it is up to you how much time you put in!
We are generally always looking for new adult volunteers to support our existing Scout teams as we currently have a waiting list of nearly 766 young people in East Lothian which is likely to increase due to the population growth in our area. Having more adults involved will ensure that we can respond to these challenges and continue to offer more young people the ability to try new experiences and have adventures such as camping, fire-lighting, climbing and abseiling, and yes, learn how to tie and use knots.
East Lothian Scouts has a great potential for delivering even more great scouting for even more young people, leading this will prove very rewarding for the right person/people.
We would love to be able to explain more about Scouting across East Lothian and the opportunities we have for you to get involved. Please do get in touch with me or to learn more about your local Scout Group and discover how you can give young people the skills they need to succeed in life and how being part of the Scouting family can be as rewarding for you as it is for them.
Please get in touch for a conversation using the contact information below.
We look forward to meeting you!
Yours in Scouting,
Hilary Cartwright
