South East Scotland Scouts have an excellent ongoing relationship with other youth organisations whom we meet with regularly to discuss various topics including opportunities for sharing best practice and common challenges.
As a result of these discussions, South East Scotland Scouts got together with Girl Guides and the Boys Brigade to take over a pop-up shop in Ocean Terminal. For four days we welcomed adults and young people into the shop to discuss each of our organisation and find out how they could benefit from joining or volunteering.
We had a number of potential adult volunteers which we are following up, plus a number of young people who want to join Scouting but the most important aspect of the experiment was having great conversations with lots of people about Scouting in South East Scotland – one visitor commented how her son had grown in confidence since joining cubs and thanked us for what Scouting was doing for him. We also had some ex-leaders, one of whom was 86, who fondly reminisced about their time in Scouting.
It’s fair to say Scouting is held in high regard by so many people.
