Parents, guardians, carers

Give a little time and build Skills for Life.

Parents have a key role in supporting Scouting activities and we welcome the interest of all involved. Normally your first source of information will be with your local group or District, but you can also contact the Region, particularly about matters for which we provide specific support. There is a lot of material available in the info section.

Many parents volunteer to help us, either in a uniformed role, as a helper, or on the various executive committees. If you feel you have even a little time to offer, please speak to one of your local contacts, or go to our Join us! page.

For more information about the different roles, see our page for adult volunteers.

There are lots of ways you can get more involved with Scouts as a parent, carer or family member. From helping out occasionally on a family rota or playing a vital role behind the scenes, to stepping up as a leader, our volunteering activities are as varied as you.

We’re talking tidy uppers and tea makers, session planners and Zoom navigators, fundraisers and treasurers, and all round team players to support our young people.

The good news is you shape what you do and the time you have to give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little (and no, you don’t have to be a Scout or outdoors expert to volunteer).

Whether you want to work with young people directly or help behind the scenes, there’s something for everyone at Scouts. Email our Scouting Support Officer and we’ll be delighted to start your journey today.

What to expect:

  • A warm welcome
  • Flexibility to get involved in a way that works for you
  • Easy access to training and resources online
  • Friendly ongoing support from local volunteers

No two weeks are the same, but the impact you make is always great.

Make a difference, volunteer today

To find out more about helping out, speak to the leader at your local group or use our volunteer enquiry from which can be found using the option below. Share your details and a volunteer from your local team will be in touch soon.

A Parent’s Guide to Scouting

The new and updated versions of the parent pack (previously Where Did All That Mud Come From?) is now available. A parent’s guide to Scouting is designed to give parents the information they need when their child first joins Scouting, what happens in Scouting and how they can help.

The booklets have been produced to help Leaders engage parents and encourage them to get more involved with Scouting. Click here for more.
