For just over 10 years now the 21st Craigalmond Group have been putting the Peace Light at the Centre of their Christmas and their community of Queensferry and Dalmeny. During November each year a group of Austrian scouts travel to Bethlehem and take light from the eternal flame which burns there. They share it at a service in Vienna’s cathedral and scouts from all over the world attend, collect a flame and then carry the flames to all corners.
The flame has reached Vancouver, Equador, the Norwegian artic circle, central Europe, Russia, the island of the western Pacific and almost all points in between. This year the 162nd Braid Group again hosted a service and it was from that service that the 21st representatives collected their flame.
From the 21st Service flames have travelled to other parts of the Craigalmond, via the Polish Scout Association to their Groups in Glasgow and Edinburgh and to Groups in West Lothian.
For all those who attend both the Peace Light Services their Christmas has a very special centre piece this year – the light of the world. This light is to be shared and in recognition of the sharing that has gone on in Queensferry and Dalmeny over the last 10 years and the support from the Churches, the Group presented each of the four local Churches each with a large lantern for their peace lights.
May you have a peaceful and bright Christmas.
