In the last couple of months Finlay Paterson & Lewis Bright from Craigalmond District and Robert Bathgate from the Borders District achieved their Queen’s Scout Award.

The Queen’s Scout Award is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network. Like the Chief Scout Awards, the QSA is comprised of a variety of activities which fall in to three main categories: International, Community & Values. As well as nights away, an expedition and residential.

Finlay Paterson has already achieved his Gold DofE which ticks off a large part of the QSA. For his international he went to the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA. Finlay said, “It was an incredible adventure and I met Scouts from all over the world.” He also took part in many activities under both community and values ranging from leading a faith walk for the beavers to producing a promotional YouTube video about his experiences in scouting and why others should join.

Lewis Bright also achieved his Gold DofE, once again ticking off a large amount of the QSA. As well as this, he also attended World Scout Jamboree, spoke to the beavers about scouting values and the scout promise, taught mandarin to the cubs and ran the environment badge with the cubs. Lewis spent his residential canoeing near Loch Ness.

In January, Robert Bathgate from Borders also completed his QSA award. Robert was a volunteer with Borders Water Rescue Team, improved his rock-climbing skills, and attended the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. He did his expedition on a sailing boat, crossing from Norway to Inverness, and completed his Explorer Belt as part of the award.
