South East Explorer Expeditions

Quick links

South East Explorer Expeditions (SEEE) provide adventurous Scouting activities.

We are a team of volunteers from across South East Scotland Region who run Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expeditions which also count for the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond, and the King’s Scout Award.  We are part of South East Scotland Scouts Region.

We had our origins in ‘BraidCraig’, a cooperative arrangement between Braid and Craigalmond, then expanded to cover the whole Region.  We managed to restart expeditions just at the end of the COVID restrictions, with training mostly completed online, and expeditions under the strict conditions then required.  We are glad to say that those days are in the past, and we now operate under normal conditions.

We run Bronze expeditions as required, though we encourage Units and Districts to do this locally where they have the resources, and we can help support local teams if required.  At Silver and Gold, we offer Hillwalking, Canoeing and Biking.  The Canoeing is run by the Longcraig ESU and their website provides full details.

Our expeditions are for Explorers (and Explorer Scout Young Leaders) from across the South East Scotland Scouts Region, but we are also prepared to help Network members (including all adult leaders under 25).  When we have space, we are happy to welcome Explorers and Network members from other Regions.

We have a small core team who do most of the organising and administration, but we depend on the many volunteers from all Districts who help with training sessions, dealing with kit, supervising or assessing expeditions.

We welcome volunteer offers from experienced leaders and newcomers alike.  If you are interested, use this form to contact us – you can offer whatever time you have available.

Although we focus on expeditions, we also try to help with the general running of DofE. For instance, we have set up a system to make the process of registering with DofE much simpler. What is always needed, however, is someone to look after the Explorers doing DofE in each Unit.  This can be an Explorer Leader, a Leader from another section, a parent, or another volunteer. This can usually be done with one visit a month, plus online support.  Anyone interested in this important and rewarding task should contact: dofe@sesscouts.org.uk

Please check the SEEE website for current information about what is happening. Or email the Team if you have an immediate question.
