South East Scotland Scouts Out and About

Quick links

South East Scotland Scouts likes to shout out about what makes Scouts great in terms of adult volunteering.

How? One way is getting out and about to promote the wealth of volunteer vacancies working directly with young people as well as behind the scenes.

The rewarding benefits, the flexible side of volunteering and of course the fun!

As we say in Scouts – Scouts can be enjoyed by both young people AND adult volunteers alike!

1. Student Recruitment:

Student recruitment is a great way of bringing fresh volunteers with new ideas into your Scouting teams. Scouts experience can be a student’s most useful assets for future employment & ensure they are not overlooked by building personal, character and employability skills.

Every September, thousands of young people choose to get further education. Many of them are already involved with us. Others might never have heard about what we do. All would benefit greatly from volunteering while studying – making new connections, learning new things and improving their wellbeing. Flexible volunteering to fit in and around their studies.

2. Recruitment Fair

Volunteer Edinburgh hold an annual Volunteer Recruitment Fair.

This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved in volunteering to find out about the wide range of roles available.  And once again, we’re attending! If you are attending, pop by and talk all things Scouts. Whether you are new to Scouts, a former scout, a parent/carer of a scout or curious to find out more. Everyone is welcome.

Around 50 organisations will explain what they do and the volunteer positions which they have available.

Date – Wednesday 14th September  (10.30am- 6.30pm)

Location – St Paul’s and St George’s Church on York Place, Edinburgh. (Entry is free to visitors)

The Recruitment Fair is a brilliant way for people to meet face to face to find out about what opportunities exist and what volunteering might do for them.

Photo right is from the 2021 event. We have new stall materials for 2022.

Would you like to join the stand for an hour or two? Are you coming to this event?

If anyone would like to join Scouting Support Officer, Kirstie Armsworth, on the stand or for a chat you are more than welcome please just email

We are particularly keen to chat to anyone who is new to Scouts, a former scout, a parent/carer of a scout or if you are keen to get involved and find out more. No previous experience of Scouting is required, just an interest in what we do.

Thanks!
