Could you Lead Scouting in Craigalmond District?

It is an exciting time to be involved in Scouting as we adjust and recover from the pandemic whilst continuing our current strategy to prepare better futures and deliver skills for life to young people who want to access Scouting.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer manager to take Scouting forward in Craigalmond District, covering North West Edinburgh as well as South Queensferry and Kirkliston.

As the District Commissioner, you will offer support to Scout Groups, Explorer Units and the Scout Network, and their leadership teams. You will manage adults, setting objectives and holding regular one-to-one meetings. Most importantly, you will ensure that Scouting offers an enjoyable and attractive programme for young people in Craigalmond, helping prepare them for a bright future.

Although no Scouting experience is necessary, you will know how to motivate people and can produce a local development plan. You will have the charisma to inspire your District Team and you will be well supported by the Regional Leadership Team.  Above all, you will believe passionately in Scouting for All: helping Scouting grow, becoming more inclusive, more youth-shaped and making a positive impact in local communities.

It’s a challenging role, but the rewards are huge, improving the outcomes for hundreds of young people in Craigalmond. Scouting offers fun, friendship and life-changing adventure to over 6,500 young people in South East Scotland Region. But this is only made possible by our talented teams of volunteers – and as District Commissioner you will become a key member of our Regional Leadership Team!

District Commissioner role, in a nutshell:

  • Provide strategic leadership to Scouting in the District
  • * Ensure that good quality Scouting is delivered to young people
  • * Develop Scouting in the District
  • * Promote and maintain the policies of The Scouts
  • * Positively manage and support adults, defining roles and responsibilities

“We are at an exciting time for Scouting in South East Scotland as we continue to recover from the challenges of COVID and start to work on taking forward our Skills for Life strategy within the Region.

The District Commissioner role is key to taking forward that strategy and gives an exciting opportunity to help shape Scouting not just in Craigalmond District, but as a key member of the Regional Leadership team, across South East Scotland.”

And if you’re reading this thinking that it all sounds quite exciting and something you’d quite enjoy doing, but maybe you’re worried about the timing or you might think there is someone else who would be better for the role, ask yourself if not me, then who? If not now, then when?

Yours in Scouting,
