Volunteer Journey Transformation

Update February 2023

The work continues to prepare our Region for the changes coming which are designed to improve the volunteer experience, allowing us to offer skills for life for more young people. As a reminder, there are 4 strands to the change. Please click on the links below to find out more detail.

I’m looking forward to attending an event at UK Scout Headquarters with our RC Martin Elliot in mid-February for Transformation Leads from 10% of Regions who will be adopting the changes ahead of everyone else.  This will help kickstart the work planned for this year which includes, the first meeting of our Transformation Regional Oversight Group (TROG) and a consultation with each District Team to tailor the new volunteer structure for their patch.

I’m hoping to be able to offer a face-to-face conference for South East Scotland Region later in the summer as more detail on the specifics of the different changes emerges more fully. In advance of that, watch out for some short video clips that aim to help understand the 4 changes, these will be available soon.

What can you do now?

  1. 1. A tangible and achievable job is to continue the work to clean up the data on Compass. Given many volunteers don’t access it, the best way to do this might be to spend 20 minutes at your next section leader meeting checking that everyone’s details are up to date. For our new digital system, all volunteers will need to use their own unique email address to log in to their details, rather than a shared section email address. Please spread the word about this and help those who need it.

  2. 2. After clicking on the links above, speak positively to others about the changes ahead. When I chat with volunteers in the Region, the vast majority are upbeat and excited about the plans for the future. I am mindful that there are gaps in the detail of how it’s actually going to work in reality, but be reassured that there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes (by people more qualified than me) to pull it all together. My job is to help facilitate the change here in South East Scotland.

I promise to keep you updated in the months ahead and I am looking forward to working with you as the project continues.
