The role of our Regional Treasurer is a very important one. We look to our Treasurer for advice, guidance and reassurance on all aspects of financial management and reporting. Our Region is one of the largest in Scotland with over 2,000 adult volunteers, and over 7,000 young members, as well as 2 activity centres.

The role of Treasurer on our Regional Executive Committee is not just about number crunching, compliance and governance activities. It is about being able to make a real difference and have a direct impact on the work of Scouting in South East Scotland. Our Treasurer needs to think strategically and be able to influence others.

It is a voluntary position, like the rest of the Regional Executive Committee members, and you will need to be able to explain the technicalities of the accounts in plain language so that other trustees understand and are interested in finance issues. This will enable them to have informed discussion and decision making. You will also assist in external communication and ensure that the statutory annual accounts and Trustees’ reports are clear and provide a real picture of our achievements. You will attend the quarterly Regional Executive Committee meetings and liaise with staff between these meetings.

You will be supported by the Finance Committee, which is composed of volunteers like yourself and with a wide range of financial skills. We also have a paid member of staff who is our Financial Administrator. And we employ FrenchDuncan, a well-known firm which provides us with a range of accountancy and payroll services.

Being a trustee is not only about giving; it is also about gaining. Becoming our Treasurer will offer finance professionals a different perspective on the role of financial management, not only from the perspective of a non-profit organisation, but also from a more independent viewpoint. It can, therefore, be a great opportunity for finance professionals to gain valuable new skills and experience.

Taking on the Treasurer role is a great way to network and to give something back. The experience can be hugely rewarding for the right person.

Are you the right person? We hope you are!
