Email MartinYoung people have ideas about what Scouting could be. As our Regional Youth Lead, you’ll help turn those ideas into action and make sure young people have a voice in the decisions that affect them.
This volunteer role puts you at the heart of regional conversations about camps, events and plans for the future. You’ll work with young people and adult volunteers to understand what matters to them, champion their ideas and follow up on what happens next.

What You'll do
As Regional Youth Lead, you’ll:
Could this be you?
You’ll need to be 18–24 at the time of appointment and keen to help young people shape their Scouting.
You don’t need previous leadership or trustee experience, and you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room. Listening, asking questions and being willing to work with others are a great place to start.Bring your curiosity and ideas.
We’ll help you build the skills and confidence to put them into practice.
Support along the way
You’ll work alongside the Regional Lead Volunteer, with support from District Youth Leads and the wider Youth Lead network.
Together, you’ll agree what’s realistic around college, university, work and your other commitments. You can continue your own Scouting alongside the role, with induction and learning to help you get started.
What you'll gain
You’ll develop skills in leadership, communication and teamwork, alongside practical experience of how a charity makes decisions. These are experiences you can take into work, education and other volunteering.
You’ll also meet people across the Region and beyond, build friendships and see the difference that young people’s ideas can make.
Interested? Start with an email
Email Martin Elliot at martin.elliot@sesscouts.org.uk and say you’re interested.
A few lines about who you are, where you Scout and why you’d like to find out more are plenty. There’s no application form to complete at this stage, and asking for a chat doesn’t commit you to taking on the role.
We’ll talk about what the role involves, what you’d like to get from it and any questions you have. If you decide to go ahead, we’ll support you through the usual volunteer checks and learning.
