SEEE Team Member (South East Explorers Expeditions)

Overview of the role

Closing date:
Tuesday 30th September

We are looking for new volunteers to help us out with Explorer Expeditions!

As a team, we share the tasks outlined below, taking into account preferences, availability and demand on the team.

Responsible for:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) expeditions for South East Scotland Scouts, supporting around 250 young people annually.
  • Communicate with participants (aged 14-24), their parents, and leaders to explain expedition options, support enrolment, and help everyone succeed.
  • Manage bookings, scheduling, logistics, and records across Silver and Gold DofE expeditions in hillwalking, canoeing, biking, and tailored formats.
  • Support participants with training logistics (in-person and online) and ensure progress is tracked on eDofE, OSM, and internal SEEE systems per DofE and Scout requirements.
  • Arrange effective groupings for expeditions, coordinate WhatsApp and messaging comms, and provide reminders and timely information.
  • Proactively engage and organise the volunteer community (c.80 members) to cover training and expeditions, reducing barriers for volunteers by handling logistics, admin, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Maintain financial oversight, coordinate expense claims, and support budget management in line with South East Scotland Scouts procedures.
  • Liaise clearly and empathetically with all stakeholders to ensure a positive experience and enable high levels of DofE Award completion.

  • Flexible, supportive environment: Tasks shared across the team, with support to meet your interests and availability—ideal for fitting around other commitments.
  • Safeguarding: Enhanced disclosure (PVG/DBS) and reference checks required; SEEE will support all volunteers to meet these mandatory requirements (see scouts.org.uk for more guidelines).
