Volunteer Development

The Volunteer Development Team makes sure all our volunteers have a positive and enjoyable volunteering experience. They make it easy for people to join and learn new skills.

From Recruitment, Welcoming, learning and Awards, our Volunteer Development Team are here to ensure your time in Scouts is both rewarding and enjoyable.

The Regional Volunteering Development Team makes sure all volunteers in South East Scotland have a positive and enjoyable volunteering experience. We make it easy for people to join and learn new skills. 

  • Using Scouts branded resources to attract new volunteers.
  • Replying quickly and positively to possible new volunteers.
  • Making sure volunteers are welcomed easily and smoothly.
  • Holding inductions with Lead Volunteers and other Team Members.
  • Helping and encouraging Team Leaders to have regular reviews with volunteers in their teams.
  • Making sure all teams (including Lead Volunteers) follow our approach to safe volunteer recruitment, appointment, reviews, and processes for leaving Scouts.
  • Helping volunteers and Young Leaders find and engage in opportunities for learning and development.
  • Coordinating Scouts learning that needs to be delivered by an accredited Trainer – including coordinating and supporting the Trainers.
  • Use the learning delivery materials developed by Scouts (e.g. training sessions, workshops, activities, etc.), and make changes (when necessary) so activities are accessible for everyone.
  • Helping volunteers connect across the local area and beyond to learn, share best practices and overcome shared challenges.
  • Set up learning opportunities with external organisations (if relevant and helpful).
  • Making sure volunteers are recognised for prior learning and experience, and have it credited in their records.
  • Learn from people in other Volunteering Development Teams.
  • Recognising and appreciating volunteers for their brilliant work, formally and informally.

Awards & Recognition

Awards are a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of our members and recognised volunteers in your team.

Adult Learning

We want all our volunteers to have the skills and knowledge they need to feel confident to help keep young people safe and help them gain skills for life.

Funding

We want to support the work of leaders at a local level to provide fun and adventure for young people in every section, unit and network within our Region. 

Safeguarding

Safety

Master something you love, or try something shiny and new. If it spurs you on or stirs your interest, we’ve probably got a badge for it.

Volunteering Stories

Once you’ve settled in, you’ll start speedily earning badges, and you’ll need to know where to put them!
