Youth Shaped Scouting
From the youngest Squirrel scout through to a Scout Network member, Scouts should have a say in how their scouting journey is run. We are passionate about making sure their voices are heard throughout South East Scotland.
A young person who knows how to shape their own Scouts experience through planning, leading and representing has a powerful skill that'll carry them through life.
Youth shaped is nothing new in Scouts. For us, it started in 1907 and it’s been happening ever since. It’s about young people working together with volunteers to shape, influence, and lead their adventure.
Today, youth-shaped Scouts forms a major part of our Skills for Life strategy, alongside inclusion, community impact and growth.
By 2025, all young people within South East Scotland will have had an opportunity to shape their experiences at Scouts. We also aim to have at least 50% of young people achieving at least one top award for their section.
Your Regional Youth Team
The Regional Youth team are made up of our Regional Youth Lead and 7 District Youth Leads from across the region.
Youth Leads in South East Scotland are aged 18-24, and responsible for influencing decisions, champion youth voices and support Leaders in the Region to make sure their young people are a key part of Scouting decisions.
Our Regional Youth Lead also sits on our Regional Trustee Board, to make sure that young voices are heard at the highest levels. They also work with the National Youth Lead as part of a team to keep young people at the heart of Scouting not only across South East Scotland but the whole of Scotland.
YouShape Awards
At Scouts, young people learn how to speak up and take the lead. But they told us that the programme didn’t recognise this enough. That’s what the new YouShape Award is all about.
